How dates and moon pictures are calculated
Moon images are PNG renders of the calculated phase, using a NASA LRO surface texture. Each day samples 8 p.m. in your selected time zone. Orientation and horizon status are calculated for Springfield. A phase image does not mean the Moon is above the horizon at that time. The small disk omits detailed libration, atmospheric coloration and terrain shadows.
Predictions use Astronomy Engine and a Yallop-style crescent visibility test. Crescent viewing estimates identify the evening; the biblical day/month boundary is that evening’s standard sunset, not the later viewing time. Biblical days begin with the Springfield evening; civil all-day notes remain on their written date. Timed events and countdowns convert to your chosen time zone.
Prediction data: 2020–2100. US Naval Observatory: crescent visibility. Moon texture: NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University, NASA Scientific Visualization Studio CGI Moon Kit.
